Designs for Earrings

L. van der Cruycen, 1770

The eight earrings and brooches on this sheet are from a book full of jewellery in the Rococo style. Designs in the period 1750-1775 favoured natural forms, asymmetry, and rocailles, or shell motifs. The earrings are an example of the girandole style: three teardrop-shaped pearls dangle from a central element consisting of a bow or bouquet.
