Design for a clock-case

Gilles Marie Oppenort, c. 1720 - c. 1730

Oppenord enjoyed great fame as a draughtsman, and many of his drawings were published as prints. This is a preliminary design for an engraving, which was published in 1738 as part of a series of six clockdesigns. The coiling dragon introduces a lively, asymmetrical element. To the right of the wall clock a view of its left-hand side is depicted.
