This design served as inspiration and was not meant to be literally reproduced. The base and trunk of intertwined branches and leaves, for example, would be very difficult to execute and never form a stable whole. Certain decorative elements recur frequently in art from Wenzel von Olmütz’s time. In addition to the foliate motifs, note the angels here and elsewhere in the gallery.

  • Description

    Ontwerp voor een gotische monstrans versierd met plant ornamenten. De voet en stam bestaan uit dooreengevlochten takken. De houder voor de hostie (lunula) wordt geflankeerd door twee engelen die lijdenswerktuigen van Christus vasthouden, de spons en de speer. In het gotische vlechtwerk bovenop staan beeldjes van Maria en Johannes en geheel bovenin staat Christus met een gesel en een roe in zijn handen. Prent is op twee bladen gedrukt die aan elkaar zijn bevestigd.
