Cup and saucer

Weesper porseleinfabriek, c. 1765 - c. 1770

This cup and saucer are embellished with depictions of Chinese figures, a type of decoration called chinoiserie. The figure on the cup plays a wind instrument; the one on the saucer is situated in a landscape. Such decorations, combined with exotic flowers, were inspired by the painted decoration found on porcelain at Meissen from about 1725.

    Kop zonder oor en schotel, veelkleurig beschilderd met chinoiserieën en losse bloemtakjes langs de randen. Gemerkt met twee gekruiste zwaarden en drie bollen in onderglazuurblauw.
