Crucified Christ

anoniem, anonymous, anonymous, anoniem, c. 1400 - c. 1425

Because this crucifix originally hung in the church of Bunde, a small village near Maastricht, it is assumed to have originated in the Meuse River region (Mosan). In the Middle Ages this region was an important breeding ground for art. With Christ’s imposingly stylized, elongated body, this crucifix is closely connected to the courtly style in Paris, where many artists from the Netherlands were active around 1400.
