Console table

anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1675

The legs of this table are carved with folds and other features of the Auricular style. Although this style was first developed in silver and goldsmith work, woodcarvers began applying it to cabinetry during the second quarter of the 17th century. The table also has naturalistic, more classicizing ornamentation, such as putti and garlands.

  • Description

    Wandtafel van grijs gemarmerd lindehout met marmeren blad. De vier overhoeks geplaatste voluutvormige poten zijn omhuld met snijwerk van geschubde bladmotieven en hebben een verdikking op de zwelling van de S-voluut; hieruit ontspruiten bloemslingers. De begin- en eindvoluut vertonen kwabornament; bovenaan in de vorm van vogelbekken. De poten zijn aan de achterzijde van de bovenste zwelling verbonden door vier gebeeldhouwde regels met ranken; de voorste draagt in het midden nog twee druivenplukkende putti.
