Console clock (Pendule a console)

Isidore-Guillaume Champion, c. 1715 - c. 1730

Marquetry combining tortoiseshell and brass, the specialitybof the celebrated cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle, was also practiced by many other Parisian craftsmen. This type of decoration remained fashionable for a long time, especially for clocks. This console clock is a simplified version of a model introduced by Boulle.

    Consoleklok, versierd met marqueterie van messing en schildpad op kern van grenenhout, en met verguld brons. De diagonaal geplaatste hoekstijlen dragen beslag met acanthusblad, onder met gepluimde vrouwenkoppen en boven met consoles: onder de met grotesken versierde verguld bronzen wijzerplaat met cijfers in émail, een figuratieve voorstelling in verguld brons. Ook de consoles dragen decoratief beslag. De halfcirkelvormige bovendorpel is voorzien van een opzetstuk, waarboven een zittende fituur van De Tijd. Uurwerk aan de achterkant getekend: G.J. Campion à Paris
