Console Table

attributed to workshop of Johann Adam Pichler, c. 1725 - c. 1730

This magnificent console table was placed under a large mirror in a grand room. It was probably made for the court of Karl Albrecht, Elector of Bavaria. Pay attention to the naturalistic carving of flowers, sprigs and tendrils, and the winged female figures on the legs.

Description
Wandtafel van verguld beukenhout, rustend op overhoeks geplaatste S-vormige poten, die in een vrouwenborstbeeld met uitgespreide vleugels eindigen, met schouders als spiraalvoluten met bloemenkransen. Ter verbinding een geslingerd X-vormig kruis, met acanthusblad en op het kruispunt met rozet en bandwerk versierd. De geschulpte voorregel draagt een palmet en ruitmotief temidden van toegewende C-voluten met acanthusblad en bloemtakken. De zijregels vertonen rozetten met bandwerk. Marmeren blad.
