Model van een windas, incompleet. Het staat op een klein tafelvormig voetstuk en bestaat uit een as met dubbele schijf, op twee palen. De schijf heeft twee groeven van verschillende diameter, waarin vaste ogen voor het takel zijn aangebracht. De rest van het model ontbreekt.

Explanatory note

  • Obreen noemt dit model een 'trijs', waarschijnlijk een verbastering van het woord trees, wat takel betekent. Verscheidene zeer gelijkende modellen zijn bekend. Het model demonstreert de werking van een van de elementaire werktuigen, dat zijn toepassing vindt in hijskranen.

Entry

Demonstration model of a compound wheel and axle. It is mounted on a pedestal and consists of an axle with a double sheave on two posts. The sheave has two grooves of varying diameters in which fixed eyes are made for the tackle. The rest of the model is missing. The axle and sheave were found separated from the pedestal.

Obreen calls this model a ‘trijs’,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 50. which probably refers to the Dutch word ‘trees’ which means tackle or whip.
