Collar made of gauze or tulle

anonymous, c. 1900

This photogram of a collar probably comes from a pattern book, which a manufacturer or salesman used to show samples of lace, gauze or tulle. It was cheaper to make a photographic reproduction than to cut up pieces of lace, gauze or tulle to use as examples of what was available. Often only small sections of the fabric were used; the complete collar, seen here makes a somewhat alienating still life.
