Christ among the Doctors

Adriaan de Weerdt, c. 1573

Jesus became separated from his parents during celebrations for Passover. Mary (seen at left) finally found him three days later at the Temple in Jerusalem, engaged in conversation with the Scribes. De Weerdt placed the young boy at the centre of the composition, surrounded by onlookers astounded by the boy’s wisdom.
