Chinese Figures around a Tea Table

Pieter Schenk (II), c. 1715 - c. 1725

A couple is seated at a round table enjoying tea on a waterfront terrace. They are receiving two visitors dressed in patterned silk robes, followed by a servant carrying a parasol. To the left is a young boy fanning a brazier, and to his right is a young woman barefoot and smoking a long pipe. A Delftware artisan translated this black-andwhite composition into color (at the right).
