Chain of the Civic Guard Company of Vlissingen

anonymous, c. 1550

The ‘king’ or winner of the annual shooting contest of the Company of Arquebusiers in Vlissingen was awarded this chain. He was permitted to wear the chain and carry other tokens of honour (a bird and a rifle) at special ceremonies such as town and guild celebrations.

    Schuttersketen, verguld, bestaande uit negentig ovale, geribde schakels, waaraan een gegoten vogel bevestigd is, gezeten op een boomtak met gotisch bladwerk en een granaatappel. Een musket is door een ketting van vierkante schakels aan de tak gehangen.
