Carriage parasol
anoniem, c. 1840 - c. 1865
In the early 19th century, the rich and affluent would promenade on foot. Then carriage suspension improved, coaches became more comfortable and people would promenade in an open carriage as well. Consequently parasols were adapted: a hinge in the middle of the stick enabled the parasol to be held conveniently over the shoulder while seated.
