Calcutta
Peter Martens, 1971
In Calcutta, as in other big metropolises, suffering and loneliness are found on the street. Martens had an eye for people who are generally overlooked, such as wanderers, beggars, and alcoholics. He wanted to reveal the harsh and unpleasant side of life, and nothing else, and to that end travelled all over the world.
