Cabinet of Amalia von Solms

Rots, Willem de, c. 1652 - c. 1657

This cabinet was commissioned by Amalia von Solms, the widow of Prince Frederik Hendrik van Oranje-Nassau. Beyond being an art lover, she played a significant political role in the Dutch Republic. For instance, when her husband suffered from gout, she regularly took on administrative duties. The decoration of orange branches on the doors alludes to the promising future of her grandson, Prince Willem III.
