anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1660

This is a so-called boogkast (arched cabinet), named for the large arches on the doors and sides. This one stands out for its Auricular-style decoration, a style of ornament that reached full expression in the work of silversmiths, among them Johannes Lutma. The fluid ornaments were carved in oak with exceptional skill in both the arches and the masks in the frieze.

    Eikenhouten tweedeurskast versierd met ebbenhout, op zwarte bolle voorpoten en rechte eiken achterpoten. De kroon- en deklijst tonen een classicistisch ornament; op het bolle ebben fries aan de zijkanten en in het midden eiken kwabachtige maskers. De togen hebben ebben omlijstingen, onderbroken door eiken noppen. De bogen zijn opgebouwd uit kwabornamenten met maskaron. De hoekstijlen en middennaald bestaan uit pilasters met ebben uitgrondingen, onderbroken door noppen, en Ionische kapitelen. Onder bladlijst.
