Buste van dr. Eliza Laurillard (1830-1908), dominee en schrijver

Arend Willem Maurits Odé, 1894

Arend Willem Maurits Odé (1865 - 1955). Reverend Eliza Laurillard (1830 - 1908). Marble, 1894. Eliza Laurillard was the most celebrated minister active in the second half of the 19th century. Not only did he preach in Amsterdam for 42 years, he also regularly mounted the pulpit of the royal chapel in Het Loo. In addition, Laurillard made a name for himself as a man of letters. According to a contemporary source, his devotional but light-hearted verses and stories were read 'in hovels and in palaces'. The sculptor Odé did this bust on the occasion of Laurillard's 40th jubilee as a minister.
