Bust of a Laughing Faun

circle of Luigi Valadier, c. 1775 - c. 1780

This is a reduced copy in bronze of a famous ancient marble sculpture, the so-called Albani Faun. Such copies were extremely popular among tourists visiting Italy and were therefore produced by countless artists. The faun, a sylvan demigod from Classical mythology, can be recognized by his goat’s horns and grin.
