Box with twelve drawing templates
anonymous, 1827
This small box contains templates used for drawing the frames and timbers for different-sized ships. These rib-shaped ship’s timbers, which form the hull, were then drawn full size in the mould loft. The templates show the size and shape of the largest timber for three different kinds of ship: a ship of the line, a frigate and a corvette.

Description
Kistje met twaalf tekenmallen voor spanten en krommers van verschillende schepen. De spantmallen geven het halve grootspant voor een linieschip van 74 stukken (spant van vijftien delen, mal zonder buikstuk zeven delen), voor een fregat van 44 stukken (spant van elf delen, mal zonder buikstuk vijf delen) en voor een korvet (spant van elf delen, mal zonder buikstuk vijf delen). Van de mallen voor de krommers zijn er drie voor zwaar inhout van de grootste afmetingen, drie voor dat van gemiddelde afmetingen en drie voor dat van de kleinste afmetingen, telkens aangevende de grootste, gemiddelde en kleinste bocht.

Box containing twelve templates for drawing frame lines and arched timbers for different vessels. The frame line templates are half the main frame of a 74-gun ship of the line (frame of fifteen parts, mould without the floor timber seven parts), of a 44-gun frigate (frame of eleven parts, template without the floor timber five parts) and of a sloop of war (frame of eleven parts, template without the floor timber five parts). The templates for the arched timbers are three for the heavy timbers, three for timbers of medium size and three for the smaller timbers, showing the least, average and most pronounced curve for each size.
