Bowl
China, c. 1100-1300, stoneware
Stoneware with black or black-brown glaze was popular among the lower middle class, especially for utilitarian items designed for everyday use. This type of stoneware was made in Fujian province. The kilns there produced a deep black stoneware through the addition of iron-rich glazes. This bowl has a thick glaze with a fine striped pattern, aptly described as the ‘hare’s fur.’
