Bowl

anonymous, c. 1875 - c. 1894

This bowl is an imitation of a design commissioned by Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908), as can be recognized by her seal and the decoration of birds perched on wisteria branches. She was closely involved in the design process and production. As regent of two underage emperors, Cixi was one of the most powerful women of her time and de facto ruler of China for almost 50 years.

Description
Klokvormige kom van porselein, bedekt met een geel glazuur en beschilderd in rood en zwart. De buitenzijde van de kom is bedekt met een geel glazuur met hierin uitgespaard in grijstinten een vogel op een tak met bloeiende blauwe regen; op de rand het zegelmerk van keizerin-regentes Cixi met het opschrift 'Tiandi yijia chun', 'Hemel en aarde vieren de lente als een familie', naast het zegel drie karakters lezend 'Daya zhai', 'het atelier van hoge cultuur'. Gemerkt op de onderzijde met een vier-karaktermerk 'yongqing changchun', 'eeuwige geluk en voortdurende lente'. Porselein met emailkleuren.
