Katō Mon’emon, c. 1900

With this bowl, Kato Mon’emon travelled back in time, emulating porcelain with similar decorative bands of geometric and plant motifs that was produced in China for the Japanese market a little after 1600. The master potter nevertheless gave the bowl a contemporary twist with its robust size and the swirling bands.

    Ronde kom met vertikale, gedraaide ribben van porselein met een versiering in onderglazuur blauw van geometrische en bladrankmotieven op de ribben. Onder in de voetring gemerkt 還情園池紋製 ’ Kanjōen Chimon-sei’ (‘gemaakt door Kanjōen Chimon’). Seto.
