Bowl
Katō Mon’emon, c. 1900
With this bowl, Kato Mon’emon travelled back in time, emulating porcelain with similar decorative bands of geometric and plant motifs that was produced in China for the Japanese market a little after 1600. The master potter nevertheless gave the bowl a contemporary twist with its robust size and the swirling bands.
