Bottle vase

Royal Leerdam Crystal, 1958

The collaboration between art and industry in the postwar Netherlands was shown to best advantage at the Expo 58 world’s fair. The glass artist Copier presented an exhibition devoted to the Dutch glass industry as well as a series of free-shaped, so-called bottle vases. The glass of these vessels was heated in places and then vacuum-drawn, creating an indented form. This first example was exhibited in the Dutch pavilion.
