Border with Cloud and Peony Motifs

The stylized clouds and peonies look Asian and exhibit the influence of Chinese porcelain and textiles in the Netherlands. The pattern in the clouds, with two symmetrically arranged birds and two angels bearing a halo, however, seems more European. A tiny bird is also incorporated in every peony.

    Strook naturelkleurige Hollandse kloskant. Het patroon bestaat uit een symmetrische compositie van een ovale cartouche tussen twee pioenrozen. In de cartouche staat een symmetrische tekening van een boompje dat aan weerszijden wordt geflankeerd door een vliegend engeltje en vogeltje. De engeltjes houden samen een kroon vast. Ook in de pioenrozen en in de vanuit de cartouche neerhangende bladeren zie je dit vogeltje. De motieven zijn gemaakt in linnenslag en zijn met elkaar verbonden door een ronde traliegrond.
