Peasant weddings were a popular theme in 16th-century printmaking. They often show the bride, with a crown on her head amidst wedding guests lavishly partaking of food, drink and dancing. Next to the newly marriedcouple are two musicians playing the bagpipe and shawm. Both instruments are loud and thus ideally suited for outdoor dance music.
