Bill of Exchange ‘Abolition of Slavery’

Slavery was abolished in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles in 1863. Dorothea Elisabeth van Uytrecht de Veer received 1600 guilders for the eight people she had held in slavery. Bitorina Voes, Carolina los Santos Broos, Christiaan Voes, Ermij Voes, Maria Broos, Marij Kook and Victor Voeg were given their freedom in 1863, but no financial compensation.
