Big Face, Front of Macy’s

William Klein (mentioned on object), 1955 - 1956

Movement is typical of Klein’s street scenes, which were of seminal importance for later generations of photographers. Notwithstanding his rapid style, Klein did not shrink from interacting with his subjects. The people in his photographs regularly look into the lens, appear to be listening, or saying something. The gaze of this girl betrays the invisible presence of the photographer.
