Baluster Vase

anonymous, c. 1850 - c. 1899

Typical of the porcelain produced in the Kangxi Period (1661-1722) is the ‘mirror-black’ glaze. It differs from the earlier brown-black glaze derived from iron. The ‘mirror black’ arises through a combination of cobalt and manganese. It is a jet black with a lustrous sheen.

    Balustervormige vaas van porselein, bedekt met een monochroom, glimmend zwart glazuur. De vaas heeft een brede, lange nek, met een ringvormige verdikking en loopt aan de bovenzijde sterk uit. Een barst in de rand. Monochromen.
