Bacchus with a Drinking Bowl

Hendrick Goltzius (mentioned on object), 1593 - 1597

Cartouches with auricular motifs were used quite often in engravings, but here Bacchus holds a drinking bowl, a three-dimensional object entirely made up of kwab forms. That was original and daring: in reality such objects were almost certainly not yet made by 1596.
