Autumn

attributed to Ignatius van Logteren, c. 1712 - c. 1713

Here autumn is portrayed as a bacchante, a votary of the mythical god of wine Bacchus, holding a bunch of grapes. Like Spring and Summer, the statue is from Broeker house garden. This building once stood near today’s Vondel Park and was a private museum for many years in the 19th century.

Description
Zij staat op een vierhoekige plint op het rechterbeen en laat het gebogen linker rusten op de tenen. Zij heeft in de hand van de gebogen rechterarm een druiventros en houdt met de linker haar mantel op. Van het driekwart naar rechts gewende hoofd vallen haartressen op een schouder; op het voorhoofd enkele vruchten. Zij draagt een gegord gewaad, dat rondom de hals door een band wordt opgehouden, maar de linkerzijde en borst onbedekt laat. De mantel met geborduurde zoom hangt van de rug en van de rechter bovenarm tot op de bodem af en is om de heupen gedrapeerd. Om haar linkerbovenarm een 'metalen' band.
