Architecture of Density #119

Michael Wolf, 2009

In 2001 Michael Wolf embarked on his photographic exploration of Hong Kong, the city he had by then called home for seven years. Because he depicted the highrises head-on, devoid of any sky or ground, it is not immediately apparent just how densely populated this metropolis truly is. The cheerful colours on some of the flats create a striking contrast with the sub-standard living conditions. People are all but missing: laundry hanging out to dry is the only sign of life.
