Apollo vilt Marsyas

Marsyas ligt op de grond, bijna geheel ontvild, zijn armen vastgebonden aan een boom, het hoofd achterover. Apollo heeft zijn huid afgestroopt en is bezig met zijn rechterbeen. Op de grond liggen vedel en panfluit. De prent heeft een Latijns onderschrift.

• inscription: ‘Unum non uno stas vulnere, Marsya, vulnus:/Tibia non tanti, sed tua stultitia est./Phoebo certandi stultam si pectore mentem/ Vulfisses, pellis non tibi vulfa foret.’
