Allegory of the East Indies

These prints form the title page of a treatise on the history of the world. In the 1730 edition, a Siamese man wearing the conical hat of a court official is visible at the right, standing behind a large map of Southeast Asia. The same figure can also be seen in a later edition, in which he points at a depiction of the royal elephant hunt. Elephants are still the symbol of present-day Thailand.
