Advertisement for the non-collapsible Midland Tyre Company with an X-ray

John Hall-Edwards (mentioned on object), 1897

X-ray photography was also used for advertising purposes, of which this photograph is a very early example. The cardboard billboard with the photograph pasted on it was intended for bicycle dealers. It was produced in (small) numbers and distributed to workshops and stores throughout England. At that time, cycling was becoming all the rage. The advertisement illustrates just how strong the rubber tyre is when punctured by all manner of sharp objects?
