Explanatory note

  • Waarschijnlijk is deze aanhef uitgeknipt uit een groter geheel. In de negentiende-eeuwse beschrijving wordt de schrijver geïdentificeerd als Ralph Allen, ondernemer en magistraat te Bath. De boekverkoper is waarschijnlijk de boekhandelaar John Nourse, hij was gevestigd 138 Strand te Londen. Op verso is een achttiende-eeuws fragment geplakt dat volgens de latere beschrijving betrekking heeft op de politicus John Elwes (1714-1789).
