Listen to the Music tour

Soundtrack

The Rijksmuseum’s latest exhibition, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum, features a unique, specially created immersive audio experience inspired by old and new masterpieces, and thematically interconnected. De tour start in gallery two, every gallery has its own track. The music allows you to take a longer look at an art work and find personal relations with art: what meaning has art for you?

The ‘music tour’ of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum features nine new pieces created by Amsterdam-based DJ and electronic music producer upsammy. Drawing on elements of ambient, electronica and leftfield experimentalism, upsammy’s pieces for Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum combine her own sounds, textures and field recordings with acoustic percussion instrumentation (marimba, vibraphone, drums) played by Valentina Magaletti in the Rijksmuseum’s galleries. The specially composed music builds on the previous experimental electronic works released by upsammy (real name Thessa Torsing) on labels including Nous Kla’er, Dekmantel and PAN, as well as her track record of taking on interdisciplinary projects that examine the interplay between sound, music, photography, and visual art.

The tour is part of a new drive from the Rijksmuseum, enabled via support from the VandenEnde Foundation, to increase engagement with young adult visitors through exploring the relationship between music and art. Frederique van Reij, manager young peoples program at the Rijksmuseum, invited Tom Trago to collaborate on the concept and act as executive producer. Trago has played a significant role in the Amsterdam electronic music scene for the best part of 2 decades as a DJ, producer and musician.
