  • Function and purpose: This cookie is set by Google Analytics during the first visit. If the cookie has been deleted, a new cookie will be placed with a new unique ID. Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. The Rijksmuseum gains insight into website and or webshop visits through these cookies. Insights include visitor numbers and popular pages and topics. As a result, the Rijksmuseum is able to better tailor its communication to the needs of website visitors. The Rijksmuseum cannot see who (which pc) is visiting their website. The cookie is updated with each visit. The unique ID in this cookie is used by Google Analytics to determine the authenticity of the visit.
  • Duration: The _ga cookie is stored for two years. The _gid cookie is stored for 24 hours.

  • Function and purpose: The purpose of this cookie is throtteling for the proper functioning of our website and Google Analytics. It is stored during the first visit to the website or webshop and will be updated during subsequent visits. The Rijksmuseum does not use Google Analytics to collect personal data other than the IP address (first 2 numbers) of the visitor.
