Huang Shen, 1764

Huang Shen was one of the ‘eight eccentrics of Yangzhou’ (Yangzhou baguai), famous for his distinctive and highly personal painting style. Here he evidences his ability to capture the form of things. He rendered the heron and lotus very precisely and vividly with just a few swipes of his brush.
