Zigzag chair for the Mees family

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1935 - 1936

In 1934, Reint and Hendrika Mees commissioned Rietveld to build a family house for them and their four children. When it was completed in 1936, they also ordered furniture from him. Two Zigzag Chairs, a new and daring design, served as piano stools. The family became friends with Rietveld, and in 1939, their daughter Dora apprenticed at his architecture firm.
