Zigzag Chair

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1932

Rietveld liked to experiment with industrial materials that were not really intended for furniture, such as fibre, aluminium and glass. In this Zigzag Chair, which he made for himself, he used a standard-sized cabinet shelf from the Bruynzeel timber factory. This was the result from the challenge he set himself, namely to design a chair from a single piece of material.
