In this self-portrait, Charley Toorop highlighted her modern appearance with a bob hairstyle and bold red lipstick, emphasized by the stark lighting. An electric lamp is reflected in the dark window in the background. The whimsical shapes at the lower left are three differently coloured roses, which contrast sharply with the clean, stylized depiction of Toorop’s face and the flat, unadorned frame.
