Women’s kimono decorated with chickens and cockerel

The irotomesode was a slightly less formal garment with a coloured background, worn on festive occasions. Yuzen dyeing was considered a suitable decoration for all formal clothing. Motifs were outlined in rice paste and coloured in, then the decorations were covered entirely with rice paste and the fabric was soaked in a dye bath to create the background colour.

    Semi-formele gekleurde vrouwenkimono (iro-tomesode), met een versiering op binnen-en buitenkant van de voorpanden van hennen en hanen met chrysanten en nandina domestica (hemelse bamboe). Fijne blauwe crêpe zijde (kinsha) met geschilderde yuzen versiering en geborduurde detaillering. Voering van rode zijde. Vijf familiewapens (mon) van klaverzuring (katabami).
