Vulture in Flight

Eadweard Muybridge (mentioned on object), 1885 - 1886

Between 1885 and 1887 Muybridge took thousands of photographs of animals moving, which he assembled in series in such a way that the motion was clear to see. He published 781 of these plates in the book Animal Locomotion in 1887. A complete series cost a whopping 600 dollars. Muybridge’s work nevertheless exerted great influence: chiefly anatomists and other scientists were keen to use it.
