The Venetian artist Jacopo Palma’s drawn oeuvre is very diverse. In addition to quick pen drawings, he also made various monochrome studies in oil on paper in preparation for paintings. These modelletti probably served to work out a balanced distribution of light and shadow in a composition. However, no painting based on the drawing displayed here is known.
