Vessel in the form of a fish

workshop of Saracchi, c. 1575 - c. 1600

Rock-crystal vessels in the shape of monsters were a speciality of the Milanese workshop of the Saracchi family. At first sight there seems to be only a single monstrous fish with a wide-open mouth; however those who look closely will see that the creature rides on the tail of a second sea monster.

    Siervat op voet van bergkristal in een montuur van verguld zilver met opgelegd goud. Versierd met email, smaragden en robijnen. Het vat heeft de vorm van een vis. Op het lichaam zijn schubben in slijpwerk aangebracht. De stam wordt gevormd door een dolfijn.
