Vase with Abstract Geometric Décor

Bart van der Leck (signed by artist), 1942

Bart van der Leck believed that ‘the greatest task of modern painting was to break away from old painting conventions.’ He did not confine himself to the traditional flat surface, but also created colour compositions in three dimensions: spatial painting. On the corners of this vase, he applied various series of geometric shapes, resulting in a different view from every angle.
