Vase

anonymous, c. 1700 - c. 1724

This vase has a long neck, which tapers down to the rounded shoulder. The surface is decorated with two gracefully intertwined bats executed in a copper-red underglaze. Bats symbolize good fortune and are among the most frequently occurring motifs in Chinese decorative art.

Description
Vaas van porselein met taps toe lopende buik, ronde schouder en iets spreidende hals, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw en rood. Op de wand en hals twee fabelddieren: grote vleermuizen of wolkendraken in onderglazuur rood met een onderglazuur blauw oog. Op de onderzijde gemerkt met het zes-karaktermerk van keizer Kangxi in twee horizontale rijen. Goudlak reparatie aan de rand. Onderglazuur blauw met koperrood.
