Two wall lights

anonymous, c. 1765 - c. 1770

These wall lights are early examples of Neoclassicism in its purest form. The model is emphatically ‘antique’, and every part is decorated with motifs derived from Classical architecture.

Description
Verguld bronzen wandarm, met drie armen. De in doorsnede vierkante stam verjongt zich naar onder toe en toont aan de voorzijde rozetvormige bladmotieven en een festoen; ter bekroning dient een urn met twee oren, waaruit een vlam komt. De S-vormige armen zijn grotendeels bedekt met een acanthusblad; de voorste cannelure is met versieringen gevuld. Een festoen verbindt de beide buitenste armen met de stam. De met vlammotief versierde kaarsenhouders rusten op een schaalvormige basis met rozetten. BK-16899-a.
