Two wall lights

anoniem, c. 1750 - c. 1760

Wall lights with candles were an important source of illumination in French interiors. They were always hung in pairs, often flanking a mirror that reflected the candlelight. The gilt bronze (ormolu) was in keeping with the gilded carving found on the walls of many rooms.
